The World Series of Poker Anticipates Record Number of Players in Main Event
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is currently underway, with the main event set to kick off next month. The tournament is expected to attract a record-breaking number of players this year, building on the increasing participation seen in recent years.
Record-Breaking Numbers in Recent Years
In 2022, the WSOP saw a return to pre-COVID numbers with 8,663 players. Since then, the tournament has continued to grow, surpassing the 10,000 player mark in the last two years. In 2023, a record-breaking 10,043 players participated, followed by an even higher number of 10,112 players in 2024.
Bet105, an online betting platform, has opened a line on whether this year’s main event will see the number of players exceed 10,000 once again. Currently, the odds are at +300 that it will.
Increased Participation in 2025
The early signs from this year’s tournament series suggest that participation will be the highest ever. The WSOP 2025 online bracelets series has already seen a 29% increase in participation compared to last year’s opening weekend.
One of the early events, the $1,000 Mystery Millions, drew 19,654 entries and generated a prize pool of $17,295,520. This represents a 7% increase from the previous year’s entries.
Pennsylvania Joins the Player Pool
One contributing factor to the increase in players is Pennsylvania joining the multi-state internet gaming agreement (MSIGA). Players in Pennsylvania can now compete online with players from Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, West Virginia, and Delaware.
The first three online bracelet events attracted a total of 5,677 entries, a 29% increase over comparable events from last year. The combined prize money reached $2.8 million, up 23% from the previous year.
Phil Hellmuth’s Return
Phil Hellmuth, who holds the record for the most WSOP bracelets with 17, initially announced that he would sit out this year’s tournament due to a demanding schedule. However, he later revealed that he will be participating in the main event after all.
Hellmuth is +300 to win an 18th bracelet this year. Other notable players like Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey are also making their mark on the tournament.

The main event of the WSOP runs from July 2 to July 16, with the final table taking place on the last two days. The event will be held at the Horseshoe Las Vegas & Paris Las Vegas, providing a thrilling atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
