UK Gambling Commission Releases Q4 Operator Data
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has recently released the operator data for the fourth quarter, which covers the three-month period ending on March 31. The report reveals that the total gross gambling yield (GGY) in the UK has shown a continuous increase, along with an uptick in the total number of bets placed.
Online and Land-Based Operator Data
The UKGC report includes data from both online and land-based gambling operators. According to the commission, Britain’s licensed online gaming operators reported a total GGY of £1.45 billion ($1.94 billion) for Q4, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The rise in GGY is attributed to an overall increase in the number of bets and spins. Online wagers and spins during Q4 witnessed a 5% surge, totaling 25.2 billion ($33.7 million).
Active Accounts and In-Person Betting
During Q4, the average monthly active accounts for online gaming increased by 2% to 13.5 million. However, the UKGC cautioned that this figure may not accurately represent the number of active players due to individuals holding multiple accounts across various platforms.
On the other hand, in-person betting saw a 5% year-on-year increase in GGY, reaching £596 million ($769.3 million), despite a slight decrease in total bets and active accounts.
Slots Performance and LBO Data
The GGY from slots experienced an 11% growth to £689 million ($920.5 million) in Q4, driven by a 6% increase in the total number of spins, amounting to 23.4 billion. The average monthly active accounts for slots also rose by 6% to 4.5 million, setting a new record.
On the other hand, LBO GGY decreased by 3% to £554 million ($740.1 million) in Q4, with total bets and spins dropping by 5% to 3.1 billion.

Aside from the operator data, the UKGC is currently evaluating potential actions against Allwyn UK for failing to meet certain commitments as the custodian of The National Lottery.
