Operator Found in Violation of License Conditions
The Gambling Commission stated that allowing a customer to gamble for extended periods without interaction goes against the License Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP). The LCCP requires premises-based businesses to interact with customers to minimize the risk of gambling-related harm.
A report by The Guardian suggested that a 64-year-old lung cancer patient, known as W.H., lost thousands of pounds in just two days at one of Merkur’s establishments. Employees reportedly witnessed the customer playing for hours and going to an ATM for more money without intervention.
Allegedly, the employees even reserved the slot machine the customer was using while she obtained cash, a practice known in the industry as a strategy for potential big jackpots after significant losses.
